NEW STUDY INDICATES DROPOUT PROBLEM IS #1
CONCERN FOR NEW YORKERS SUMMIT SCHEDULED ON DROPOUT PREVENTION (NYC) - A new report to be released on Tuesday by the Community Service Society indicates that the dropout epidemic is the most pressing concern for New Yorkers, ranking far ahead of issues like hunger, terror threats or even crime. The report, which surveyed more than 1,700 New Yorkers of all economic and ethnic backgrounds, found that city residents strongly favor more public funding to give dropouts a second chance.
In an effort to address the dropout problem, a coalition of government officials, civic leaders, educators and union heads will convene a DROPOUT SUMMIT at Baruch College on Friday, February 23. The SUMMIT will bring together New York State and city education department officials, the UFT and CSA, principals, parents, teachers, community organizations and students.
Schedule, participants, panels and research are available online at www.dfoy.org
