I am writing this on the evening of July 30th and, as they say, significant events often happen in threes. On this day, 3 significant passings occurred: Sweden's noted film director, Ingmar Bergman; NFL SUPER BOWL winning head coach, Bill Walsh; and radio, television journalist and talk show host, Tom Snyder, all died this day. Three significant passings, indeed.

Here and below, I will look at the passing of Tom Snyder.

I had wanted to write about the recent release of the NBC UNIVERSAL DVD series, of the TOMORROW SHOW with Tom Snyder. With the exception of the interview of Punk Rock Icon, Patti Smith, the three DVDs now out there represent the Tomorrow Show that Snyder was least comfortable with. That is, with a LIVE audience, music bands and a co-host.

For Someone who has never seen the old Tomorow Show with Tom Snyder, these DVD programs may be the best peek into the work of a unique broadcaster. The rest of us are just going to have to wait for the powers that be to release the complete series of the Snyder interviews. They were as special as the man who hosted the ground breaking and landmark program.

(On the night I originally assembled what follows below, video clips of the TOMORROW SHOW can now be seen on YouTube.com I would strongly suggest you go there, log-on and, enter a search in the 'search bar' of that web site. Many of the selected programs I refer to below can be found there and, that includes the riveting interview with mass murderer Charles Manson, among others. There is a moving tribute at the beginning which has a series of short clips from the Tomorrow Show over the course of the years it aired on NBC-TV.)

Below, do read below of a segment I had written about the broadcasting icon. Thanks for tuning in here over these last couple of years. Snyder was a giant among broadcasters. He was among my favorites. Consider this my personal tribute to Tom Snyder here on the International Access Networks Blog. The following first appeared on these pages in January of 2006.
